The Maths Story Method
Instead of presenting a topic as a set of rules, every lesson turns it into a situation, character, or journey your child can picture — then we step inside it and play until the maths makes sense.
WHY DRILLS FAIL
You can’t drill fear out of a child.
A frightened brain cannot learn. When a child who already dreads maths is handed more sums, more speed tests, and more red pen, the fear wins before the first question is read. That is why the ordinary tutor so often changes nothing — it is more of the very thing that caused the problem.
Drama solves what drills can’t. In a story, there is no wrong answer to be afraid of — only a scene to explore. The child relaxes, plays, thinks… and suddenly the maths is happening without the panic. Independent research on drama-based teaching shows its strongest learning gains at exactly the ages I teach.

Every lesson runs the same four moves
Simple on the surface. Underneath: thirty years of maths teaching and stagecraft working together.
The Calm Start
Ten minutes that change everything. A story hook, a laugh, a warm-up with no marks attached. Cortisol down, curiosity up — the door to learning opens before a single “proper” question appears.
The Story
The topic becomes a situation your child can picture: a pizza that refuses to be divided, a detective chasing a missing percentage, a journey across a map of angles. Abstract rules become concrete worlds.
The Play
Your child steps into the story — acting a role, solving the problem from inside it, explaining their thinking out loud. Active, never passive. (A quiet bonus: they’re learning to speak clearly and confidently too.)
Practice & Pride
Story worksheets and short practice tests lock the understanding in — and make progress visible. Children keep score of their own wins. Pride, it turns out, is the best homework motivator ever invented.

- First, the foundations: number sense, place value, multiplication & division fluency — the two things that decide everything above them.

WHAT WE COVER
Built around your child’s gaps, not a generic syllabus
Every student starts with a gentle level check. Most maths fear traces back to two foundations laid badly in earlier grades — number sense and times-table fluency — so we rebuild those first. Then the topics that trip most students up get the richest stories and the most rehearsal time.
Classes run in English and fit alongside any school curriculum — national, British, or international.
